Future Success
The Foundation funded an estimated $250,000 in early college credits in a single year through the support of Advanced Placement tests for students who couldn't afford the test fee. AP tests cost our students approximately $100 each -- a price that can be overwhelming to some families. We aim to fund more than 200 tests this year.
First-Generation Success
The Foundation has introduced nearly 200 students and many of their parents to four-year campuses for the first time, showcasing new opportunities to students who will become the first in their generation in their family to attend college. The trips include interaction with District 214 alumni who now attend the colleges, on-bus programming from District 214 college counselors and college tours.
Scholarships
Donors launched nearly $225,000 in new scholarships in a single year, empowering students' postsecondary and high school success.
Entrepreneurship
The Foundation annually supports student entrepreneurs through funding awarded at a District-wide pitch night. Students who have showcased their business at this event have gone on to achieve great success: being featured on The Today Show and raising thousands on Kickstarter.
Partnerships
A Foundation partnership with Panera Bread is providing food for students at three schools of specialized learning, resulting in increased attendance on days when our students know they will be fed. A second partnership with Lumen Optical empowered eyeglasses and exams for students in need. We continually work to create and foster relationships with community businesses and organizations that support our students and our educators
CLASSROOM INITIATIVES
The Foundation is awarding an estimated $20,000 toward innovative classroom initiatives and transformational projects conceived by educators. These grants support student learning District-wide.
Community
The Foundation annually supports integral District-provided programming that transforms generations through education. This includes adult and family literacy courses, GED courses and classes at the Catherine M. Lee Women's and Children's Program at Forest View Educational Center.
