Dave Buchheit taught chemistry and Earth Science for District 214 at Forest View High School from the day it opened to the day it closed. He was instrumental in establishing the chess club at FVHS and repeated the process once he moved to Elk Grove High School to finish out his classroom teaching career.

Dave also supervised the Forest View Community Education Program until he reached the milestone of having accumulated 50 years of service to District 214. Dave’s inquiring mind kept him excited about learning all his life not only while he was in the classroom, but whenever he met someone new or had the opportunity to travel with his wife.

Dave's love for science and chess was contagious. He is remembered by former students and faculty for his patient mentoring and high expectations, always encouraging all students to discover and learn. Dave and his wife, Mary, loved exploring and learning.
This scholarship has been established by his daughter, Bonnie, a fellow teacher, and John Hersey High School alum, and her family, to honor students who are enthusiastic about learning and making the world a better place.

This scholarship awards $1,000 to one graduating senior from District 214. Special consideration will be given to students who have a passion for science and/or math, who have participated on the chess team, or have been involved in the arts.

The David & Mary Buchheit Memorial Scholarship is administered by District 214 Education Foundation , and students are selected by the Family and Friends of David & Mary.
