Susan Ramstedt Scholarship

Sue Ramstedt dedicated her life to educating and mentoring the children of Mount Prospect, Illinois, and did so for over 25 years. She served as a special education teacher at Lincoln Junior High School from 1976 - 2001. She was also a leader and actively involved outside the classroom as President of District 57 Parent Teacher Association and a member of MPEA, School Board and NSSEO. Her efforts earned her a Shining Star Award as “Youth Champion” from the village of Mount Prospect in 2008. Sue once shared her philosophy, “Each student I taught learned differently. You teach them confidence and believing in themselves. It doesn’t matter what the topic is or if we learn it at all.” Sue was a firm believer that ANY student could excel and she was always there to support them in the classroom or one-on-one.  She would tutor children in her basement, collecting payment in a coffee can. While tutoring helped supplement her teaching salary, it was never about the money. She would say, “Put whatever you can in there.” Sue fought tirelessly for her students and for District 57. “Teaching is not just a job you go to. Your school is your home away from home. Your profession is to be valued and respected.”

This scholarship has been established by Sue’s son Jim Ramstedt and his wife Stacey so that Sue’s legacy carries on and that she may continue to impact the lives of many more students in the future. This scholarship awards $2,500 to two graduating seniors from Prospect High School.

Requirements to apply for the scholarship: a graduating senior from Prospect High School, a student that attended Lincoln Junior High, and a student with an IEP.

The Sue Ramstedt Memorial Scholarship is administered by District 214 Education Foundation, and award recipients are selected by the family and friends of Sue Ramstedt.
